Ethos

La Rue works on wood panel, paper, linen, and handwoven textiles using oil, oil pastel, charcoal, indigo, cochineal, and soil sourced from the local landscape. These are not incidental choices-each material carries history, weight, and resistance. His practice is sustained by the same discipline that led him to resume painting almost immediately after a near-fatal accident in 2023 left him with permanent paralysis in his right arm, relearning his work one-handed. That commitment to continuity shapes not only his studio practice but his engagement with the communities around him-as co-founder of Gallery Mariposa LA, he works to cultivate space for emerging artists and the creative life of Los Angeles.
